Facebook chat and messages allow you to communicate privately with your friends on Facebook. Unlike the other things you share on Facebook, such as status updates or photos, chats and messages will not be shared with all of your friends or posted on your Timeline.
You can also send messages to Facebook friends via the Messages menu. This can be an easier way to find people if they're offline or if you're having trouble finding them in the chat box.

The Messenger is where you'll read all of your private communication on Facebook, including your chat conversation history. Whenever you receive a new message or chat, it will appear in the Messenger. From here, it's easy to read, manage, and delete your chats.
UPDATE: 7/17/11 3:00PM PST: Since I published this post yesterday, Facebook seems to have removed the Chat Sidebar and reverted back to the old chat. For now, anyway!! ? Let me know in the comments below if you still have the new Sidebar.
When i select the icon on chat box to hide sidebar, it does not have anything regarding hiding sidebar. I have tried everything and it is still in the middle of my page. Very irritating to say the least. Any suggestions?

The platform supports text messaging, voice and video calls (including group video calls). Users can personalize their experience with a selection of chat themes, stickers and custom reactions featuring avatars. As of June 2021, Facebook is testing an in-app payment system, Facebook Pay, that will allow users to request and send money through Messenger.
Following a conversation, save relevant notes. This can include apparel sizes, order preferences, or other details that may be useful to have on hand for future chats. The next time someone reaches out, review the Context Card, notes, and previous conversation. This may take extra time, but if you have it, it can make all the difference.
The Facebook Messenger default settings show when you are active online and available to chat with a co-worker or friend. Your connections see a green dot on their Facebook Messenger app or Facebook website that indicates you're available, and you can see which of your connections are available to receive messages in real time by locating the green light next to their names. This makes it easy to connect with someone in real time when you know they are online and can see your message.
In the Messenger app and in Messenger at the Facebook website, you can hide the fact that you are online, and other users will not know you are active. In the Facebook browser version, you have more options for your visibility than in the app. Either way, you are not required to show as active on chat. You can send and read messages regardless of your status.
To turn off the green light on Facebook Messenger on your mobile device, open the Facebook Messenger app on your smartphone or tablet. Tap your profile picture at the top of the open app. Scroll through the Setting options until you reach the "Active Status" option and tap it. Turn off the ability of other users to see when you are active or recently active by selecting the dot or slider next to the text labeled "Show when you're active_"_ in the screen that opens. A popup window opens noting that you won't be able to see when your friends are active or recently active. Select "Turn Off" to complete the action and remove the active status and green dots inside the Messenger app. You can still chat and see everyone in your chat list, but not their active status.
Facebook Messenger looks different when viewed in a web browser because it is integrated with Facebook as a whole and does not work as an independent app. Your chat contacts appear in a panel to the right of the main Facebook screen. When you are online, you can see a green dot next to each person on the list who is also currently online. When you are inactive, you can still see their names and send messages to them, but you can't see if they are online, and they can't see whether you are online.
To turn off your active chat status, scroll to the bottom of the list of chat contacts and click the gear Settings icon. Select "Turn Off Active Status." At that point, you can opt to "Turn off active status for all contacts," "Turn off active status for all contacts except..." or "Turn off active status for only some contacts..." in the popup screen.
Using the Facebook Messenger website is like using any other instant messaging application. Simply click or tap on the compose button and select the person/s you would like to chat with and then start typing.
For example, if you choose Burger King, you can send a message that you are hungry and the bot will take your order. There are bots for companies like 1-800-flowers, CNN, eBay, Expedia, and many more with additional options added daily. Simply follow the conversation to complete your task. You can also get information on the stock market, view the weather, plan vacations, and chat with customer support.
Facebook Messenger is a mobile tool that allows users to instantly send chat messages to friends on Facebook. Messages are received on their mobile phones. Facebook Messenger also enables users to send chat messages to people who are logged onto their Facebook accounts. It is is available for Android phones, iPhone, iPad and BlackBerry devices. It operates on iOS, Windows (Windows 7 and Vista) and Android.
I saw your article about contacting Instagram, but I actually need help contacting Facebook customer service to get my password reset and regain control of my account. How do I contact Facebook support? Any inside ideas on good ways to actually get Facebook help? Is there an email address for Facebook? Or maybe a Facebook phone number to call? Even a Facebook support live chat would be helpful.
Facebook offers live chat as a means of getting help through their agents. Unfortunately, Facebook Live Chat is only available for business accounts. This is usually the best way to contact Facebook business support. They do not help with standard user accounts, which leaves the vast majority of their user population without a chat option.
The less expensive option is to buy a Facebook Portal Mini for $80. By buying the Facebook Portal Mini, you now have a product that Facebook has a call center for support. In fact, the Facebook Portal Website even has a link to email the Portal team directly for support AND it has a chat bot that you can start a support chat.
In other words, if you can get someone else to reach out to Facebook on your behalf, especially via business chat, it might get you past the Facebook automation process and onto the radar of an actual Facebook employee who might be able to help.
My Facebook was hacked and the hacker posted inappropriate material, which resulted in my Facebook and Instagram being permanently disabled. My business is run on those pages, so I'm desperate to get them back! I've tried the Oculus trick and the Portal trick, neither worked, the employees on the chats simply state that they cannot do anything with Facebook accounts. Anyone have any other tricks?
Blue has defined Facebook's color scheme since its inception. Both Facebook's main app and Messenger theme are blue, which means your chat bubbles, like emoji, and menu bar items are also. While certainly a satisfying color for chat, you may get sick of it after a while, especially when it's in every thread. Luckily, Facebook lets you customize the color of individual Messenger chats.
Messenger introduced color customization in December 2015. While the feature is relatively old, it has grown and evolved, offering both new color choices and fun gradient color options. The only thing is, anyone in the conversation can change the color theme for the chat, so if you change it to orange, the other person can change it to a blue/red gradient, and you can battle back and forth between themes.
Changing the colors in a chat thread is simple. First, open the thread you'd like to re-colorize. Next, tap on your friend's name or the group name at the top. On Android, you can also tap the info (i) button in the top right to get to the same place. Either way, on the next screen, tap "Color."
You'll see an array of options, a total of 16 at this time. The first five options are color gradients, which will change colors as you scroll through a thread. The other 11 are solid colors. Tap an option to set that color for the chat immediately.
Everybody in the chat will get a notification that you changed the color, whether they're on an iPhone or Android phone, so if there are any hotheads in your group, be careful. You may have a vivid brawl upcoming. Once you choose the color, Messenger will close the color picker, but you can quickly tap "Color" again if you change your mind.

47. Log in to Facebook more than 2 devices at a time>> Type message text for one friend in chat box from mobile device>> now change Facebook password from desktop>>User should get logged out from all devices
To use chat you must be logged into your Facebook account. It is usually found on the bottom right hand side of your screen and could be minimised as per the image below or showing a list of all your friends as contacts. If no-one is showing type the first letter of the name of the person you want to message and all the names of friends beginning with that letter will show. 2ff7e9595c
